Background of the Study
Regulatory policies significantly influence the logistics sector, shaping operations, costs, and efficiency. Nigeria and Ghana, as key players in West Africa, have distinct regulatory frameworks governing logistics, including customs regulations, transportation laws, and trade policies. While Nigeria has faced challenges such as inconsistent regulations and infrastructure gaps, Ghana has been lauded for relatively stable policies that promote regional trade (Adjei & Yusuf, 2024).

Nigerian Breweries, a prominent logistics-dependent company, operates in Niger State and engages in cross-border activities. This case provides a unique opportunity to compare how regulatory policies in Nigeria and Ghana impact logistics efficiency and cost-effectiveness (Adebayo & Mensah, 2023).

Statement of the Problem
Regulatory inconsistencies and inefficiencies have been cited as major barriers to logistics performance in Nigeria. Comparatively, Ghana's policies have facilitated smoother regional trade. Nigerian Breweries faces challenges in aligning its logistics strategies with these varying regulatory landscapes, resulting in operational inefficiencies. This study seeks to address these issues by comparing the impact of regulatory policies in the two countries (Eze & Boateng, 2024).

Objectives of the Study

  1. To evaluate the effect of regulatory policies on logistics operations in Nigeria.
  2. To assess the influence of Ghanaian regulatory policies on logistics efficiency.
  3. To recommend policy adjustments for improving logistics performance in Nigeria.

Research Questions

  1. What is the impact of Nigerian regulatory policies on logistics operations?
  2. How do Ghanaian policies influence logistics efficiency?
  3. What lessons can Nigeria learn from Ghana to enhance its logistics sector?

Research Hypotheses

  1. H0: Regulatory policies in Nigeria do not significantly affect logistics operations.
  2. H0: Ghanaian regulatory policies do not significantly improve logistics efficiency.
  3. H0: There is no significant difference between the impact of Nigerian and Ghanaian regulatory policies on logistics performance.

Scope and Limitations of the Study
The study focuses on Nigerian Breweries’ logistics operations in Niger State and compares them with Ghanaian policies. Limitations include access to detailed policy data and differences in infrastructural contexts.

Definitions of Terms

  1. Regulatory Policies: Laws and regulations that govern logistics operations, including transportation and trade.
  2. Logistics Sector: The industry involved in the planning, implementation, and control of the movement of goods and services.
  3. Cross-Border Trade: Trade activities involving the exchange of goods and services between neighboring countries.
